Although I unfortunately could not see the Golden Globes this year, I did catch up on everything that happened via social media once I got out of work. I saw Quentin Tarantino's acceptance speech (ghetto=isolated area/group, not racist), checked Kim Kardashian's live tweets while she simultaneously viewed KUWTK and the award show, and also saw Leonardo Dicaprio's face when Lady Gaga walked past him.
I wish I could say that I've seen all the films nominated this year, but so far the only ones I have been able to watch are Fifty Shades of Grey, Trainwreck, Inside Out, Spy, Steve Jobs, and The Hateful Eight. I've never been too into tv shows but I did manage to finish Jane the Virgin and watch a couple episodes of House of Cards, Empire, and How to Get Away With Murder. As far as my own opinions, I haven't seen Anomalisa, but I'm surprised that a stop-motion film, directed by Charlie Kaufman, lost out to a below average Pixar animation. (I love Pixar movies, I just wasn't too crazy about Inside Out) I thought Steve Jobs was beautifully filmed, but it surprised me that Kate Winslet won (it surprised her too). I thought Trainwreck even being nominated was weird, simply because the movie received subpar ratings and didn't really amount to more than a summer romcom blockbuster.
Anyways, now to the outfits, the most important part of an awards show (jokes). I love films and I love works of art in a visual, moving setting. I believe fashion is also a work of art, with elegant, strategic cuts, vigorous movement, and passionate color. The Golden Globes truly does set the scene for the awards season. Those nominees that presented themselves with a perfectly styled outfit tend to continuously impress with their fashion throughout the season, right up until the most important night: the Oscars. These "best looks" are what I considered to make the most impact on the red carpet. I do not include a "worst looks" simply because that is too opinionated to come into play. I do feature a "Best of the Night", however, based on an outfit that truly outshone all the others.
